The beta for Konami’s Hideo Kojima-less Metal Gear Survive is now available to grab for PS4 and Xbox One, offering a taste of the controversial game’s multiplayer offerings. Oddly enough, it appears the beta is late rolling out in the US but is available now in Europe.
Metal Gear Survive’s beta (via PST) sees you and up to three buddies fending off marauding zombie beings known as Wanderer, as you attempt to defend a Wormhole digger on the decidedly uninviting world of Dite. To survive, players must triumph over three increasing tough waves of the undead foes.
Victory means loot, and in Metal Gear Survive’s alternate reality, that means Kuban Crystals (used too buff your character’s attributes and create items) and crafting materials. You’ll need to make sure you are sufficiently prepared for a match though, or you’ll soon find yourself overwhelmed.
Elsewhere, the beta lets you chill out in the Staging Area before a game begins as well as take part in side missions, which grant handy rewards such as the Metal Gear Walker.
Metal Gear Survive will be sneaking into stores on February 22. Konami confirmed this week that the title requires a constant Internet connection and shared some key plot details on the stealth-centric spin-off. Check out the latest single-player footage while you’re at it.
