Hideo Kojima has released new details about his upcoming open-world Metal Gear title, Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes.

Ground Zeroes is a “prologue” to Metal Gear Solid 5, Kojima revealed, and will launch on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

It’s unknown whether the game will head to PC or next-generation consoles, too.

Ground Zeroes isn’t Kojima’s rumoured ‘Project OGRE’, either, he confirmed.

Ground Zeroes was announced during a Metal Gear Solid 25th Anniversary event last week. A gameplay demo of the title was posted over the weekend, offering players the first look at Kojima Productions’ next-generation Fox Engine.

The game is set after PSP title Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and sees the return of Snake, and introduces open world mechanics to the stealth series for the first time.

Snake is said to be able to call in helicopters to escape from areas and travel to new countries, and drive vehicles.

The trailer also introduces one new character: a suited character with a burned face, presumed to be one of the game’s new villains.

A release date for Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is still to be announced.
