The third-person mech combat game is in development at Backbone Entertainment, and will make full use of the DS’s capabilities. The top screen will display the action from a third-person perspective while the touch screen shows a functional interior which can be used to hack into mechs, eject pilots, switch weapons and check battle techniques.
“MechAssault: Phantom War fuses the best game play elements from the series with new features that take advantage of the unique mechanics of the Nintendo DS,” said Ken Gold, vice president of Marketing for Majesco Entertainment.
The game will feature 24 single-player campaigns taking place over four planets, twenty vehicle types, and three wireless multiplayer modes supporting up to four players. MechAssault: Phantom War is scheduled for release on the DS later this year.
