Season 3.5 of Marvel Rivals is scheduled to come out on Friday, August 8. The season will bring Blade, a new Duelist, along with a new map. NetEase will also release numerous hero changes and stricter punishments for players who quit in Ranked matches. On top of this, the company will now record all in-game voice chats, which is a controversial decision.

As revealed in the latest Dev Vision video, NetEase is beginning Operation: Shield the Community. This operation will bring many improvements, but the developer will likely face some backlash over it.

Marvel Rivals will automatically record voice chat in the new season

As a multiplayer game, it’s no surprise that Marvel Rivals is full of toxicity. Voice and text chat are often abused, despite NetEase’s efforts to prevent this. Season 3.5 will take a big step in the right direction, but it will come with a cost. The latest video also revealed that the developer began working on this with the latest update on July 24.

“To keep Marvel Rivals a positive experience for all, we are upgrading our in-game environment. Starting July 24, in addition to player reports and manual review, all in-game voice chat will now be automatically screened by the system with human review,” Guangguang, the game’s creative director, revealed. “This means we’ll catch more toxic behaviour and players using inappropriate language will be penalised, making the game a better place,” he added.

Guangguang also revealed custom filters for in-game chat, which is a new feature in Season 3.5. Players will be able to filter out words that will be muted only for them. In addition to this, NetEase will monitor the most popular muted words and consider adding them to the official list of blacklisted phrases.
