Marvel Rivals has successfully established itself as a top hero shooter, with over 40 million players since its December 2024 launch. The game’s spectacular rise, which included a staggering 10 million users in only 72 hours, is now rivaling industry titans such as Blizzard’s Overwatch.

Season 1 and Season 1.5 introduced the Fantastic Four, four new maps, and a dynamic Doom Match style, enthralling fans with its frequent content drops. These updates, combined with intelligent balancing improvements, have kept the community buzzing and the game’s retention soaring, thus setting one of Steam’s new all-time records.

NetEase’s success is measured not only in terms of numbers but also in strategy. The company’s free-to-play strategy, backed by a growing cosmetic market, has generated more than $200 million in revenue. Despite recent layoffs that have raised questions, NetEase is dedicated to Marvel Rivals’ future and long-term support.

NetEase vows to provide support for Marvel Rivals for 10 years and beyond

In the recent NetEase Q4 Earnings call, the devs were questioned about future plans and support for Marvel Rivals during an interactive Q&A session. The devs and company representatives at NetEase then offered their insights on the player count and announced some crucial details for the game’s future.

They said, “Marvel Rivals, especially after Season One, has gained wide appraisal from worldwide players. This is a product we’re going to keep investing in, both in development and on marketing. We do believe this is a product we’re going to keep operating, keep enhancing, and keep investing in for ten years and beyond.”

This vision aligns with the pace that NetEase devs have planned to add new characters every 45 days and have a large enough character library with Marvel that could keep the game running for several hundreds of years. However, when it comes to new maps and events, there are numerous leaks already out there, one of which majorly hints at an iconic comic book event, the Hellfire Gala which is said to be the theme of the upcoming Season 2 update in April 2025.

Besides that, several leakers have already dug deep into the game files and data-mined voice lines for heroes such as Emma Frost, Phoenix, Deadpool, Modok, Hit Monkey, and more who are said to arrive in the game very soon.
