The next update for Forza Motorsport 5 will introduce a major revamp to the in-game economy, Microsoft has confirmed, which will see the price of cars lowered and the amount of credits earned “dramatically” increased.

Microsoft states that the adjustments are based on “player behaviour within the game” and the “feedback received from the Forza Motorsport 5 community”. Forza 5 has been criticised by fans for its integration of microtransactions, which let players spend real money on credits to buy new cars.

“We are dramatically increasing the rate at which credits are being earned in the game,” said Microsoft. “For example, driver level payouts have more than doubled (from just over 15,000 credits to 35,000 credits). Players using average difficulty settings will also see approximately a 60 percent increase in credits earned per hour of play — a number that can dramatically increase by upping the Drivatar difficulty and assist settings used during races. Wherever your skill level lies, however, you’ll be earning more credits per hour in Forza Motorsport 5 to spend on the cars that matter most to you.”

The price of the game’s best cars are also being reduced which, in combination with the increased rewards, Microsoft claims will let players “earn their dream cars in approximately one-fifth the amount of time it took to earn those same cars in Forza 4”.

The Ferrari 250 GTO, for example, will now cost 2 million credits after the content update, reduced from 6 million at the game’s launch.

The update is currently in certification and expected to be released “very soon”.

A variety of new game modes will also be introduced as part of the update, including Drag Racing, where players will be able to race down quarter-mile, half-mile or full-mile strips in Free Play and online multiplayer, and new multiplayer mode Tag, which Microsoft describes as “pure automotive mayhem.

As the name suggests, Tag will see players chasing other cars to pass a virus.

Microsoft has not confirmed whether the new modes will be premium DLC or included for free within the update.
