Mafia 3 may have been a critical disappointment, but it appears the game has performed extremely well for publisher 2K.
Reporting strong Q2 2017 financial results, Take-Two revealed that Mafia 3 set a new record for 2K.
“Developed by Hangar 13, Mafia III is the fastest-selling game in 2K’s history, generating week one sell-in of more than 4.5 million units,” revealed the publisher.
Of course sold in means shipped to retailers, meaning we don’t know how many consumers actually bought a copy. In the UK Mafia 3 set a week one sales record for the franchise, outpacing the launch week of Mafia 2 back in August 2010 by 58.7 per cent.
The game is also confirmed as a launch title for PS4 Pro, which could help shift a few more copies for those seeking improved visuals.
