40+ games will launch with PS4 Pro enhancements when the new console hits shelves on November 10, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced.

The enhanced titles include Battlefield 1, Infinite Warfare, Uncharted 4, Hitman, FIFA 17, Mafia 3, The Last of Us and Knack. More than 45 games will be optimised by the end of the year, including Final Fantasy 15 and Watch Dogs 2.

In addition, all first party games launched during or after 2017 will take advantage of PS4 Pro capabilities. GT Sport is one such game.

“Since unveiling PS4 Pro, we know players have been very eager to see exactly how it will impact their favourite games. We are pleased to say that the console will give them the experience they have been waiting for; images are incredibly sharp and the tiniest details are magnified – making gameplay more immersive than ever before,” said Jim Ryan, President, Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe.

“Being able to significantly boost the visual impact of our games by using PS4 Pro’s 4K and HDR technologies makes our software offering stronger than ever. These enhancements make us prouder than ever to say that PlayStation 4 is the best place to play.”

Ratchet & Clank is not native 4K, but uses a technique called Temporal Injection – not checkerboard – plus full screen anti aliasing and HDR.  On 1080p displays the game supersamples the 4K version down to 1080p. Both versions run at 30 frames per second. Regular PS4 users will also get HDR support.

It’s great to see some PS VR games in the list, but slightly disappointing to see the likes of Until Dawn: Rush of Blood and not the acclaimed game from which it spun off from.

HITMAN: The overall resolution has been increased, aliasing reduced, reflective surfaces improved, and more detailed lighting effects, all without compromising the frame rate. There’s also higher quality textures and a native 4K UI. Note the game itself if not native 4K. 1080p users will benefit from a downsampled image.

“With HITMAN we made a live game which is constantly improving and the PS4 Pro aligns perfectly with that vision of constant improvement, we’re proud to support it,” said Hannes Seifert, Studio Head, Io-Interactive.

Rise of the Tomb Raider:  Additions include three unique visual modes – 4K Resolution, High Frame Rate, and Enriched Visuals – alongside other enhancements such as hardware tessellation, anisotropic filtering, additional dynamic foliage, and more.

World of Tanks: With increased resolution, support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) output, and smoother frame rates, tanks will look more realistic and vibrant.

Each frame is rendered at 3200 x 1800 resolution and the PS4 Pro does a high quality upscale from that to 4K which is 3840×2160 pixels. Tank and terrain textures are more detailed, even up close. The vegetation looks fuller and more natural on PS4 Pro due to the higher quality anti-aliasing.

HDR allows for a wider and more dynamic range of lighting and colours. You’ll see more detail in our HDR skies and physically-based lighting, particularly in levels like Siegfried Line War and Hills. The vibrant colours of the vegetation in the Karelia swamps are more intense and lifelike, and the water looks cool, blue, and inviting in its richness.
