EA Sports has announced Madden NFL for release alongside the Nintendo 3DS in March 2011.

Madden NFL Football promises a comprehensive handheld experience with modes including authentic 11-on-11 football, fast-paced 5-on-5 action and Season Mode. Additional features “jump off” the screen with 3D graphics, such as Spotlight Moments and Call Your Shots. Call Your Shots allows users to draw their own plays, on-the-fly, directly on the screen.

Three types of play-calling will also be available: GameFlow, Classic, and Arcade. GameFlow automatically selects the best play for the situation based on real NFL team gameplans; streamlining play calling and shortening overall game length for a more accessible experience. Classic play call allows users to experience the full depth of selecting formations and individual plays, while Arcade play call simplifies options through a more concentrated playbook.

The game will also make use of new 3D specific camera angles, making the most of the handheld’s 3D screen.

Madden NFL is one of EA’s most successful franchises. Its presence at the launch shows how seriously the publisher is backing the 3DS. The game joins EA’s previously announced 3DS titles, The Sims 3, My Garden and FIFA.
