Hironobu Sakaguchi, formerly of Square Enix, has been speaking to Famitsu about his new studio Mistwalker and in particular the Xbox 360 RPG Lost Odyssey.

Most exciting is news that a playable demo of Lost Odyssey has been completed and will be available to play at the Tokyo Game Show. The demo is said to last around an hour and features seamless integration of movie and gameplay. Those who can’t attend the show will be able to grab a copy of the demo when it’s distributed with a November issue of Famitsu.

Sakaguchi has said that although the demo is in good shape, the game is still undergoing optimisation.

For instance, in the scenes with massed armies, not that many soldiers are present. However, we’re performing optimization to raise the speed. The finished game will run at 30 frames per second, even when the screen is packed with armies as far as the eye can see,” said Sakaguchi.

According to Sakaguchi, the demo visuals are representative of about 80 percent of the final game, with the featured gameplay said to show the game’s system in its “most basic form.

Also expected to make a splash at TGS is Mistwalker’s debut Xbox 360 game, Blue Dragon, which is expected to be released in Japan later this year. The release of Lost Odyssey isn’t quite so clear cut though, with Sakaguchi taking a ‘it’ll be released when it’s done’ approach.
