The upcoming remake of Suda 51 action game Lollipop Chainsaw, now entitled Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, has been delayed into Summer 2024.

The remake was originally announced last summer, and was expected to release in 2023. However, as developer Dragami Games revealed to fans via their Twitter account today, though the project now has an official name – Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP – it won’t make that original deadline. “RePOP’s release delayed to summer 2024 for the best gaming experience. Apologies to fans waiting for the latest Lollipop Chainsaw installment, thank you for your understanding.”

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP's producer explains the delay to the game in a tweet..

The remake’s lead producer – Yoshimi Yasuda, followed this up with a statement of his own. “We are working hard on game development, but we need a little more time. We will do our best to create the game that you will love, so we ask for your continued support.”

Announced last July, the project raised some eyebrows when it was revealed the remake won’t involve original creative director Goichi Suda, otherwise known as Suda51, or indeed Hollywood director James Gunn – the game’s original writer who is of course now in charge of the DC Cinematic universe. However, producer Yasuda would later reassure fans that though some things would inevitably change about the remake, including the graphics to bring them up-to-date, the team was “aiming for a remake that is as close as possible to a remaster.” Yasuda also noted “We do not wish to change Juliet’s design, and the assumption that we want to is baseless. We were the ones who created Juliet’s model data after great trial and error ten years ago, and feel attached to her more than anyone else.”

There’s still no official platforms for Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP at the time of writing, but hopefully we’ll hear more in the future. If you’ve not checked out our review of the original Lollipop Chainsaw, you can do so here.
