Konami finally revealed the Silent Hill F release date last night at Sony’s PlayStation State of Play. Confirmed alongside new looks at Pragmata, Nioh 3 and more, the new horror game looks absolutely sublime.

Coming after the slow, methodical Silent Hill 2 Remake by Bloober Team, the new adventure doesn’t only change things up with a new Japanese setting and a schoolgirl protagonist, but it’ll also be “more action-oriented” than what fans may be used to.

Silent Hill F veers towards action-horror

Following the game’s release date reveal, via VGC, producer Motoi Okamoto explained that the new entry in Konami’s iconic horror franchise will allow players to “explore [an] authentic depiction of 1960s Japan” at a striking “4K resolution”.

While the game still focuses on the tense, plodding pace of previous titles, Silent Hill F has combat that “will have a heavier focus on melee and be more action-oriented compared to last year’s Silent Hill 2.”

Of course, the series’ traditional puzzles return for this new entry, and they are “grounded in psychological anguish and suffering”.

“These are deeply connected to the story by scriptwriter Ryukishi07, as well as elements of Japanese culture, such as scarecrows,” Okamoto explained.

“There is the terrible beauty of the game’s monster design – created by the artist kera that marries Japanese horror with the uniqueness of Silent Hill’s previous, terrifying creations – while composers Akira Yamaoka and Kensuke Inage fashion a score that evokes the past but is entirely fitting with this new setting,” the producer continued.

Silent Hill F is a much different experience than prior games in the series, largely due to its distance from the usual small town America setting. However, just like Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3, the new game will focus on psychological horror with themes of suicidal thoughts and other deep topics.
