Many gamers have expressed their frustration at the PS3 version of the game, which suffers from crippling slowdown. You can read why we were so disappointed with the game here.

In a recent update to its website, Konami said it was aware of what it calls “stuttering” in the PS3 version and that the solution is to play the game “on an HD TV with an HDMI or component cable and the PS3 set to output in 720p resolution or above“.

Konami said that if gamers input the changes they should prevent the problem and allow the player to “enjoy the full HD experience provided by their PLAYSTATION 3“.

However, the problems we reported when we originally played the PS3 game were found when running the game under the conditions Konami recommends. When we checked to see if there had been any change, we still experienced extreme frame rate problems.

Konami says it is “continuing to work on finding a solution for those people who do not have access to an HD TV“.

And there’s still no word on a fix for the crippling online lag experienced on all versions of the game. In the update, Konami repeated a statement issued previously, saying: “We have uncovered issues which affect online gameplay quality of PES 2008. We are working at full strength to find a solution as quickly as possible. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience.

Last month we exclusively brought you the news that Konami is working on a patch intended to combat offline and online issues with the game. While the Xbox 360 version of the game runs smoother than the PS3 version, online play on both consoles is still extremely difficult. It is clear that for many PES fans around the world this patch cannot come soon enough.
