38 Studios, the developer behind Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, is facing financial difficulties, reports NBC 10 in Rhode Island.

"We're always working to keep Rhode Island companies solvent, and that's what we're doing with 38 Studios," said Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee to the local NBC affiliate.

Rhode Island made a $75 million loan guarantee in 2010 to initially bring 38 Studios to Rhode Island.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning released earlier this year and sold 410,000 copies in its first two months on sale in the US. This figures doesn't include sales in the rest of the world or those made digitally.

Given apparent strong sales it is a little surprising to hear that the studio is struggling. 38 Studios is yet to offer comment.
