Fatal Frame producer Keisuke Kikuchi has said he’d like to bring the series to the Switch, in an interview with Nintendo Everything

A cult classic survival horror experience, Fatal Frame follows heroines trying to escape a secluded town haunted by an evil, supernatural entity. Using the Camera Obscura, a mythical device which identifies apparitions and harms the enemies, the protagonist lines up a ‘fatal frame’ that acts as a critical hit and awards high spirit energy points. These points are then spent on items that improve the Camera Obscura, and each photo of a ghost will reveal a fragment of their story.

The last game in the series was Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water for the Wii U, and players directly moved and aligned the Camera Obscura with the console’s Gamepad. Speaking to Nintendo Everything, series producer Keisuke Kikuchi said he’s always ‘very happy’ to be asked about Fatal Frame. Kikuchi brainstorms ‘a lot of ideas’ for the franchises he’s worked on, even though Koei Tecmo is busying away on the Fairy Tail RPG at the moment.

‘Yeah, I do want to make a Fatal Frame on Switch,’ he said, when asked about revisiting the cult classic. ‘I think it’d be a ton of fun to play with the console in handheld mode and moving all around.’ The Switch’s motion controls have been utilised by lots of games, like Overwatch and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

It has been almost five years since a new Fatal Frame game, and a new installment would only add to the Switch’s burgeoning horror game library. Or, Koei Tecmo could copy Frictional Games’ approach to Amnesia and port an existing Fatal Frame game to the console. Everybody wins! Except the poor protagonist who has to get snap happy with the spooks.
