Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was first announced at the 2022 San Diego Comic Con to an audible gasp by the assembled audiences in the room and at home followed by a wave of excitement at the announcement of the first Avengers movie since Avengers: Endgame smashed the global box office in 2019.
As Marvel Studio’s head, Kevin Feige, announced that Kang Dynasty along with Avengers: Secret Wars (which he announced at the same time at SDCC 2022), would make up “Phase 6” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which along with Phases 4 and 5, would henceforth be known as “The Multiverse Saga”.
Further expanding on the story threads first seen in ‘Loki’ with the variants, the sacred timeline, and finally the reveal of the multiverse and “He Who Remains” who we learned was himself a variant of Kang The Conqueror, who had, for centuries, been guarding the timeline in order to prevent another multiversal war caused by the various Kang’s vying for supremacy and ultimate power.
Story threads that we have seen further expanded upon with the wider multiverse in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and soon to be explored, quite literally, in the upcoming, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, which will see “Kang The Conqueror” revealed for the first time in the MCU.

In an interview with Empire Magazine discussing the upcoming Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, director, Peyton Reed, confirmed that Quantamania writer, Jeff Loveness, is also writing Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, saying:
“Jeff Loveness, who wrote this movie, is writing The Kang Dynasty as well, so there’s been a lot of discussion about the impact that this appearance of Kang The Conqueror makes. There are big things in store.“
