The Japanese government is to investigate reports of PlayStation Vita charge connection points burning. According to the Daily Yomiuri newspaper (via Andriasang), there have been 31 reported incidents across the world, with the majority coming from Japan.
Sony has already reported the incidents to the National Institute of Technology and Evaluation. The firm doesn’t believe the problem is due to a product malfunction and has pointed towards substances being in the connection slot while the device is charging.
Sony execs have no doubt had dreams about headlines declaring the Vita is on fire, but they would have hoped to be reading about strong sales and not burnt devices.
