The arrival of Destiny 2 Lightfall continues to excite Bungie’s loyal fan base as the latest expansion brings a plethora of new features to the fray.

With Lightfall being the popular multiplayer FPS title’s seventh expansion, many within the community are starting to wonder if this will be the last one in the series. Rest easy Guardians because now we’re here to answer this particular question so you can ease your troubled mind.
Here’s what we know about future expansions following the release of Lightfall.
Will Destiny 2 Lightfall be the last expansion?
Guardians rejoice! Destiny 2 Lightfall will not be the last expansion as Bungie has already confirmed the arrival of the next chapter. Temporarily entitled The Final Shape, the eighth expansion will be released in 2024 and will apparently serve as the conclusion for the The Light and Darkness Saga.

This means that the last expansion, at least for the current story line, is still far-off so you’ll be able to enjoy Lightfall without having to worry about it ending. Bungie is also yet to provide any current information regarding the next chapter as they are completely focused on improving the player experience for their current story installment.
Based on Lightfall’s launch trailer, its plot will mainly focus on the Guardians’ fight against The Witness itself as evidenced by his monologue at the beginning of the clip. Most of the story will also be taking place within the city of Neomuna where you’ll also get to meet its protectors called Cloud Striders.
Players in particular are excited about the new subclasses that are being introduced, which include the Hunter Threadrunner, the Titan Berserker, and the Warlock Broodweaver, all of whom will have unique, Strand-based abilities that they can use.
Will Lightfall be the end of Destiny 2?
No, Lightfall will not be the end of Destiny 2. Instead, it will be the penultimate act to The Light and Darkness Saga with the next expansion set to conclude the installment entirely. It’s currently unclear what Bungie’s plans are for Destiny 2 after they’ve finished with their upcoming creations. However, the developers of the popular multiplayer FPS title will most likely explore new storylines once the time comes.
What happens to Destiny 2 after Lightfall?
Once Lightfall concludes, another expansion will take its place which is set to signal the end of The Light and Darkness Saga as a whole. With the next DLC still far-off, however, there will still be plenty of time to enjoy all the content that the current chapter has to offer. There will also most likely be at least four seasons introduced throughout the course of Lightfall, each with its own new batch of content, so there’ll be plenty to enjoy for Destiny 2 players.
