The iPhone 5, expected to be announced next month, will feature the same A5 system-on-a-chip that powers the iPad 2, claims website 9to5mac.

The information is said to have come from an anonymous source close to iPhone 5 development.

In addition, iPhone 5 is reported to feature 1GB or RAM and an 8 megapixel camera. In contrast, the iPad 2 is reported to feature only 512MB of RAM, as does the iPhone 4.

All this extra power will allow Apple to introduce its voice recognition application, Assistant. You’ll find more on this over on 9to5mac.com.

Expect official info on iPhone 5 on October 4, which happens to be next Tuesday.
