The developer behind the Hitman franchise has announced it has opened up a new studio, IO Malmo, in Sweden.

The company announced that the move will 'strengthen IO Interactive's commitment to deliver exceptional content to the Hitman franchise, community and all our fans.'

'We are super excited and proud to announce IOI Malmö. We will expand IOI to join a [bustling] game developer community and bring our own unique IOI culture to this amazing town,' commented Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive.

'Furthermore, this will expand our muscles for creating brand-new and exciting endeavours, new universes, new franchises. In other words, IOI Malmö and Copenhagen are one family.'

Hitman 2 was released last November on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. The game was distributed by Warner Bros. Interactive, as IO's previous publishing deal with Square Enix came to an end in 2017.

The first release under Warner Bros. was last year's Hitman: Definitive Edition on PS4 and Xbox One.
