Intel’s first dual-core processor is due for release at around the middle of the year. Codenamed Smithfield, the processor is likely to be running at around 3 GHz. Gamers could be fooled into thinking that two 3 GHz cores will mean a 6 GHz processing speed. They would be wrong and unless Intel convinces developers to program with their chip in mind, gamers may see no improvement in games when using the new processor.

Most current gaming engines have no support for the dual-core technology and it is up to Intel to push their technology to developers.
