MachineGames, the developer of our GOTY 2024 winner Indiana Jones and The Great Circle and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus has cancelled an unannounced game. While the studio works on a DLC expansion for its Indiana Jones game, one of the studio’s next projects has already been scrapped.

MachineGames scraps unannounced game

Spotted by Twitter user Timur222, a lead artist on Indiana Jones and The Great Circle explained on LinkedIn that MachienGames has already scrapped an unannounced title at the studio. No details were revealed regarding the killed game project except for the fact that it has indeed been cancelled.

While fans have been hoping that the studio was already working on a Wolfenstein 3, there’s no sign that this was the cancelled project at MachineGames. With the success of Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, there is a possibility that the team is already planning work on a sequel.

As one of the biggest studios acquired alongside Bethesda Game Studios during Microsoft’s acquisition of Zenimax, there’s a tonne of potential for new projects. As Indiana Jones has reached high player numbers across Xbox Series, PC and now PS5 consoles, there’s no reason to assume that this cancelled project was a second Indiana Jones game.

We likely won’t find out what the cancelled MachineGames title is until some time in the future. However, I really hope it isn’t the long-awaited third entry in the modern Wolfenstein reboot series. With Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus ending on a major cliffhanger after the assassination of Frau Engel on a live TV broadcast, there’s a tonne of potential for a follow-up.

In the years since The New Colossus, the studio also released some spin-off titles, including the co-op game Youngblood and the VR game Cyberpilot. However, none of these were as interesting as a proper third entry in the reboot series.
