Treasure's much-loved shooter Ikaruga is coming to the Nintendo Switch later this month, Nicalis has announced.

Originally released in arcades and later the Sega Dreamcast to critical acclaim, Ikaruga turned heads back in the day for its vibrant graphics and polarity-switching gameplay, requiring sharp-shooters to not only blast enemy forces but change up polarities (black and white) to absorb incoming attacks of matching colour.

This adds a wrinkle of strategy into the mix, as you won't be just mindlessly unloading on hordes of foes; you really need to think about what attacks are coming and how you will react to them. There's five stages in total and two modes to blast through, namely Arcade and Prototype.

Interestingly, Ikaruga was recently rumoured for the PlayStation 4 after a listing for the title was spotted on Germany's ratings board. Right now nothing has been announced beyond the Switch version, however.

Ikaruga will be released for the Switch via the eShop on May 29, priced at $14.99. The game is also available for GameCube, PC, and Xbox 360.
