Hyper Scape will close its doors in April, confirms Ubisoft

Free-to-play battle royale shooter Hyper Scape will be coming to an end this April, Ubisoft has announced.

The studio behind the game broke the news to fans via its official website. It said “We have made the difficult decision to end development of Hyper Scape and shut the game down as of April 28th. We set out to create a vertical, close-quarters, and fast-paced shooter experience and we are extremely grateful to our community for joining us on our journey. We will be taking key learnings from this game into future products.”

Hyper Scape was first reported in June 2020 and would launch by August of that same year to some fanfare. The game saw 100 players fight in a futuristic city in traditional battle royale fashion to crown one winner. However, the twist was towards the end, an actual crown would spawn in the arena. Players could try and grab and hold onto this crown. If they managed to do so for 45 seconds, they’d win the match regardless of number of players left.

The game also made a big deal of its Twitch integration. Viewers could vote on events or effects while watching, such as low gravity, which would then be applied to the match. Sadly, it never quite found its feet, and last year several members of its development team left Ubisoft Montreal to form their own studio, Monster Closet. (As reported by GamesIndustry.biz)

The message closed by thanking Hyper Scape fans for their support. “To the Hyper Scape community, thank you for your passion and dedication to the world of Neo Arcadia both inside and outside of the game. Your devotion to the game we built will always be cherished.”
