Newly released Nvidia GeForce 295.73 drivers are promising very noticeable performance increases for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

“Bethesda Softworks’ role-playing action game is Steam’s fastest selling and the most popular game ever, boasting a record-breaking concurrent user count that bested even Valve’s venerable titles. With PC players spending an incredible 75 hours in the world of Skyrim, on average, we’ve worked hard to enhance the experience for our users,” said Andrew Burnes, GeForce.com Games & Technology editor.

The 295.73 drivers are said to be especially helpful for GTX 560 and 560 Ti gamers hoping to make use of Bethesda’s high resolution texture pack, says Burnes.

An indoor scene tested showed a huge 44.5 per cent increase in performance, allowing the mid-range card to make full use of Skyrim’s Ultra graphics options. Outdoor performance – which is more CPU bound – registered a 16.2% improvement on the GTX 560.

In addition, support for Ambient Occlusion has been improved, reducing the impact on frame rate and improving the fidelity of shadows.
