HTC Vive opened its pre-order store yesterday afternoon, and the virtual reality system’s launch allocation sold out in a matter of minutes.

HTC’s Shen Ye Tweeted that the firm had taken pre-orders for more than 15,000 units in under 10 minutes. Online reports indicate that the April 5 launch allocation was gone in between 15 and 20 minutes.

New pre-orders now state they will ship in May.

Whilst the majority of consumers believe the £689 + shipping price point to be too expensive, the sell-out goes to show that keen early adopters are willing to pay large sums to be at the forefront of technology.
