PlayStation has kicked off 2022 in style, announcing Horizon Call of the Mountain as its first PlayStation VR2 first-party game.

An all-new entry in the Horizon saga, it’ll be the first game in which you won’t be playing as Aloy. Instead, you’ll quite literally get behind the eyes of a brand new character in the universe. Don’t worry though, as we’re promised you’ll get to meet Aloy, other familiar faces and some brand new ones during your adventure.

The game will be co-developed by Horizon series regulars Guerrilla and Firesprite Games. They’re the Liverpool-based developers made up of former Studio Liverpool staffers that PlayStation snapped up last year. They’re pretty dab hands at this VR thing too, having worked on original PSVR launch title The Playroom VR.

There’s no word on a release date for Horizon Call of the Mountain just yet, or if it’ll be a bundled-with-the-headset deal like The Playroom VR was. Still, we’re teased there’ll be plenty more information before its launch on the PS5-exclusive PSVR2. Speaking of PSVR2, the hardware itself was also given its official name and specs during CES 2022 last night, more on that here.

In the meantime, you can check out the first teaser for Horizon Call of the Mountain below. And just in case you’d forgotten, Horizon Forbidden West will be our next visit to Aloy’s world. That arrives on PS4 and PS5 in just over a month’s time, on February 18, 2022.
