Multiplayer heist game Hood: Outlaws & Legends is receiving a new stealth-based State Heist game mode in its latest update today.

The new game mode switches out the game’s usual setup of two human teams versus the AI to make this one a strictly humans-versus-the-machine affair. To compensate, however, the State forces have been beefed up with the new mode also including new mechanics that emphasise stealth and co-operation.

Players will still be trying to acquire and extract a chest of loot, but when they die they’ll drop a respawn talisman. Surviving players must pick up this token and deliver it to a capture point in order to resurrect their fallen friend. Once the chest is back to the extraction zone, a winch will start automatically banking your ill gotten gains, but you’ll have to defend it from enemy forces including a souped-up Sherriff. If he manages to break the winch before the gold is extracted, it’s game over.

The new mode is also being celebrated with a new Survive the State event. Any player who successfully steals a chest in the new mode without being killed before August 2 will get a lovely new Shadow Lords costume for their trouble.

Developer Sumo Digital promises more updates in the weeks to come, with Season 1: Samhain just around the corner including a new Outlaw, cosmetics and more. Speaking of Sumo, it emerged earlier this month that they are to be acquired by Tencent in a deal said to be worth $1.3 billion USD.
