Update: Arrowhead has now released an overview for the new Cyborgs returning to Helldivers 2, with an official release date of February 10.
Original story:
The Cyborgs are set to invade Helldivers 2. Arrowhead first teased the return of the Cyborgs with the Siege Breakers Warbond trailer at the end of January, and now the faction has officially made contact, issuing a warning for us to leave them alone or be “annihilated,” while also offering a brief glimpse of what they look like.
On the official Helldivers 2 YouTube channel, Arrowhead has uploaded a video featuring the same binary code that has recently taken over the game’s social media accounts. In the video, the Cyborgs speak clearly and directly to issue a warning to Super Earth.
The Cyborgs declare, “You enslaved us in the name of freedom,” and “You tried to eradicate us in the name of freedom”. They continue, “We endured. We survived. We are the Cyborg Legion. And now we are free”.
The video then ends with the message, “Leave us, and there will be peace,” followed by the warning, “Else be annihilated”. We are also given a blurry look at the Cyborgs, who are shown glowing with unnerving, Terminator-esque red eyes.
What are Cyborgs in Helldivers 2?
Cyborgs are a faction from the original Helldivers that effectively gave rise to the Automatons currently wreaking havoc in Helldivers 2. While Automatons are entirely mechanical, bloodthirsty machines, the Cyborgs were once human terrorists who “perverted their bodies with cybernetic augmentation”.
In the first Helldivers, the Cyborgs rebelled against the ideals of Super Earth to “adopt the ancient ideology of socialism”. They were eventually defeated, enslaved by Super Earth, and confined to their icy, desolate home planet of Cyberstan.
Their units included enemies such as the Butcher, the surgeons responsible for Cyborg implantations, as well as Berserkers, close-combat machines driven mad by their augmentations.
In addition to the recently received warning, Arrowhead has released an Attack on Cyberstan Deep Dive. Cyberstan is the Cyborgs’ home planet, and leaks dating back to April 2025 had already pointed to the existence of an Automaton homeworld called New Cyberstan.
The return of Cyborgs promises to be fantastic, and Arrowhead has teased bringing back even more content from the first game, such as additional vehicles. Leaks have also suggested the eventual return of more Illuminate enemies, such as the Illusionist.
As for the Automatons, they have stolen plans for Super Earth’s Star of Peace freedom beam, which is basically a superweapon like the Death Star from Star Wars, as leaked in September 2025. This is why we are marching towards Cyberstan, because “In the wrong hands this symbol of peace would become a weapon of total annihilation – a threat to freedom itself”.
