Helldivers 2 design director, Niklas Malmborg, says developer Arrowhead is “looking at extending vehicle gameplay”. In the latest Democratic Conversation video uploaded onto the game’s official YouTube channel, Malmborg reiterates that nothing is guaranteed, but Arrowhead “have plans,” and it “would be fun to bring back some” of the vehicles from the first game, although the developer won’t bring back “all of them”.

The M-102 Fast Recon Vehicle was added to Helldivers 2 in December 2024 with the Omens of Tyranny update. It is a four-wheeled vehicle mounted with a heavy machine gun, and it is available as a Stratagem that costs 25,000 Requisition Slips.

Helldivers 1 had more vehicles than HD2, such as the M5 APC, a four-seater armored vehicle equipped with a double-barrelled light auto-cannon. There was also the MC-109 Hammer Motorcycle, boasting excellent speed as well as a machine gun for the passenger. Unfortunately, Malmborg doesn’t hint at which particular vehicles could return from Helldivers 1.

Besides bringing back more vehicles from the first game, Malmborg says Arrowhead is planning to “extend how much you can do with vehicles”. This includes theoretical ideas such as “can you reload stuff [and] can you repair stuff”.

Malmborg isn’t “guaranteeing anything,” but Arrowhead is “definitely experimenting,” and “there are a lot of people in the studio that want that kind of [gameplay],” so the developer “will look into it”.

Arrowhead hasn’t outlined their plans for 2026, but hopefully, next year will be a lot smoother than 2025, which has been plagued by performance issues, particularly on PC, as well as bugs and glitches. Leaks have revealed a future stealth Warbond, and there are leaked Illuminate Cultists yet to join the battlefield.

As for right now, you can enjoy the annual Festival of Reckoning winter event until December 31.
