Arrowhead Game Studios recently announced that Helldivers 2 is set to receive its first major update titled ‘Escalation of Freedom.’ This new update will launch on August 6th and will add new difficulty options, planets, and enemies including the Impaler from the first game, and make some crucial quality-of-life changes including grief prevention where players will boot a player from the mission at the last second to prevent them from acquiring the Samples and XP they would have earned.

At the time of writing, the Escalation of Freedom trailer has 1,634,982 views and over 89,000 likes. This makes it the second most viewed Helldivers 2 trailer, only second to the launch trailer from February that currently sits at 2.3 million views.

This shows that Helldivers 2 players, especially those who have abandoned the game and moved on in recent months, are excited about new content. In recent days, Helldivers 2 has dipped to below 10,000 concurrent players for the first time ever, but it looks like the game could be set to turn around when the new update lands on August 6th.

With Sony being so focused on monthly Warbonds, which most have been disappointing so far, this could show that the direction is wrong and instead should be focusing on bringing fresh new content monthly, similar to how games such as Fortnite release bi-weekly content that sometimes sees major map changes and events take place.

It will be interesting to see where the game heads next, but this is a promising sign and hopefully, this will lead to Helldivers 2 seeing an increased player count as the community comes back to try out the new content, which includes a level 10 difficulty, new enemies, and more.
