Helldivers 2 is making big strides to improve the experience and bring back fans. We’re still waiting on the much-anticipated arrival of the Illuminate faction, but at least fans will soon be treated to a new significant update. We were already pumped for the patch, but we’re even more excited now thanks to an encouraging message to the community from the Helldivers 2 CCO.

More details about the upcoming update have been shared by Arrowhead. We know the next update is set to arrive on September 17th, and, while there will be enemy overhauls, Arrowhead are cautious about changing bots, although they are monitoring the situation. The update will largely focus on balancing, and new details have been shared about a massive buff set to arrive for the flamethrower.

The flamethrower is great news as it shows the developer is rolling back on controversial changes made in the past. This is good to hear, and a message from the Helldivers 2 CCO has us extremely optimistic for what’s coming.

Helldivers 2 CCO promises next update will “make the game feel less frustrating”

On the Helldivers Discord, Arrowhead CCO and HD2 creative director, Pilestedt, shared a message to the community about the update arriving next Tuesday.

Acknowledging criticism from the community about how much time it is taking to “do a numbers change,” the creative director assured fans the upcoming patch is a “much larger holistic take to realign the gameplay”.

Fans have complained about significant changes to weapons in the past, and Arrowhead has held their hands up in acknowledging mistakes were made. Pilestedt said, “The reason so many of you found excitement in tools such as the flamethrower, railgun, eruptor etc. we realized is because they could deal with heavily armored enemies much more effectively compared to how the weapons were portrayed”.

In now understanding why certain weapons were so beloved and why certain changes were heavily criticized, Arrowhead are making changes a “bit larger than just getting the flamethrower back to where it was; But also getting other weapons up to the level that you (and I) feel they should’ve been from the start”.

The creative director promised “The game experience of this update will be much more substantial in how you play”. The belief is that “More tools will be varying degrees of effective and specialized tools will work much better against their intended targets”. Lastly, the game “will feel less frustrating if you don’t have specialized tools”.

We will ultimately have to wait and see if the update delivers on what’s promised, but the above message is encouraging news. It feels as though Arrowhead fully understand the frustrations of players over changes to beloved weapons, and undoing these changes is already evident with the confirmed buffs to the flamethrower.
