Helldivers 2 CCO says experimental server will arrive “at some point,” needs “some sort of NDA attached”

Although Arrowhead Game Studios’ launch of Helldivers 2 was a smashing success, the past few weeks haven’t been as kind to the beloved intergalactic co-op shooter.

Despite the recent launch of its massive Escalation of Freedom update, the weapon balance tweaks included with the patch prompted an outpouring of complaints from disgruntled players. But even though community frustration steadily mounts, the dev team continues chugging along, with studio CCO Johan Pilestedt recently hosting an impromptu Q&A session on the official Helldivers 2 Discord server.

Although most of Pilestedt’s answers were largely vague, one sliver of information that stood out was the dev team’s plans regarding an experimental server in Helldivers 2. “Right, we will have an experimental server at some point. It’s being worked on. It will be a restricted group of active users, and [will have] some sort [of] NDA attached—we don’t want spoilers for those that aren’t testing,” the Arrowhead Game Studios CCO revealed.

Now, since it’s still in development, it’s currently unclear when the experimental server will arrive. And, since only a “restricted group of active users” will be allowed in, it’s a feature that most players won’t even be able to try out. Regardless, its arrival should help the developers implement future tweaks and improvements because it will allow them to gather feedback regarding the changes players want.

Of course, an experimental server in Helldivers 2 isn’t the only thing Pilestedt teased; he also said that pre-saved loadouts, mech customization, a color mod system, and more are either in the works or being considered, so there’s plenty to look forward to.
