Halo 4 arrives in stores on November 6, and Microsoft is doing its best to ensure gamers understand just how popular the sci-fi franchise is.

To date more than 46 million copies of Halo games have been sold worldwide, generating almost $3 billion in sales.

Halo: Reach, the most recent original Halo game, generated more than $200 million in sales in the US and Europe in just 24 hours, which was more than all previous 2010 US entertainment launches, including Iron Man 2.

Prior to Reach, Halo 3 reached $170 in the US alone, breaking the single-day entertainment launch record of $125 held by Halo 2.

And how about this huge figure to get your head around: more than five billion hours of Halo gameplay has been logged by players connected to Xbox LIVE.

Halo 4 will no doubt bump up these figures by a considerable margin – read our Halo 4 review to see why you should be picking it up next week.
