Grand Theft Auto 5 has sold-in over 45 million units since launching in September 2013, Take Two has announced, including almost 10 million units on PS4 and Xbox One.
The sales mean that GTA 5 has now outsold the original Super Mario Bros., which sold over 40 million copies when it released on the NES.
Despite the high amount of sales on PS4 and Xbox One, however, the current-gen version still hasn’t sold as many units as the original Xbox 360/PS3 release managed within its first 24 hours.
During its first day on sale, the 360/PS3 version sold 11.21m units, breaking the world record for the highest amount of revenue generated by an entertainment product in a single day.
A PC version is due to release on March 24.
