GTA 5’s car and other vehicle customisations will be handled at a new automotive shop called LS Customs, producer and lead mission designer Imran Sarwar has told Game Informer.
“Pay & Spray isn’t in this game – it’s been replaced by LS Customs,” explained Sarwar. “These are located throughout the world and they’re a one-stop shop for any car customisation. You will be able to take in your car or bike, speak to the mechanic, and customise them.”
Vehicle customisation in Grand Theft Auto 5 has also been elevated to greater importance than in previous GTA titles.
“Rather than it simply being an additional option for players to experiment with, we wanted to expand it and integrate it more deeply into the game so that it would seamlessly slot in with everything else that the player can do in the world,” said Sarwar. “Some missions ask you to customise vehicles in certain ways, and we have taken vehicle customisation in general a lot further than we did in San Andreas.”
Customisation doesn’t stop at cosmetic changes either, with players able to tinker with over 1,000 modifications.
“In addition to the many cosmetic customisation alterations such as body kits, paint jobs/finishes, wheels, exhaust tips, window tints, tire smoke colour, bull-bars, extra lights, and lots of other extra accessories, we have modifications that will affect gameplay and vehicle performance,” detailed Sarwar. “Some of the modifications that affect gameplay include brakes, engine tuning, suspension, horns, bulletproof tires, panel armour, and of course, a general repair!
“There are more than 1,000 modifications in total. And when you’re done customising your car, you can take a picture of it using the in-game cell phone and upload them to the Social Club.”
GTA 5 will be released September 17 for Xbox 360 and PS3. The first gameplay footage was released yesterday, and you can watch it below.
