Kazunori Yamauchi, Polyphony Digital’s president and creator of the Gran Turismo series has revealed his team is currently putting the finishing touches to PlayStation 3 exclusive Gran Turismo 5.

“… my attention is focused purely on Gran Turismo 5 right now,” he told Famitsu magazine. “The scale of this title is just dizzying, so daily progress is slow, but it’s still going forward at a steady clip.”

He added: “All the basic stuff is complete, but we’re trying to give everything that little bit extra at present. We could release it any time we want, really, but I want to have that classic GT-style ‘did we really have to go this far?’ feel going. I want to go way beyond gamer expectations.”

Going beyond gamer expectations could prove tricky, given that the title is one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2010.

Gran Turismo 5 is scheduled for release in Japan on March 31, 2010. No firm date has been set for Europe.
