Gran Turismo 5’s first week sales in Japan have clocked in at 430,707 units, according to data released by Media Create.

The overdue racer easily outpaced the competition, shifting over 300,000 more units than Super Robot Taisen L at No.2.

The launch of GT5 also boosted sales of the PS3, more than doubling weekly sales from 29,058 to 68,840 units. The game was released as part of a blue PS3 hardware bundle.

Despite the sales surge, it was the PSP which remained on top, although its 75,000 units is a 20,000 units drop on the previous week.

Gran Turismo 5 was always going to be a big seller for Sony, but it’s not yet clear if the bump in console sales is a blip or an increase which can be sustained in the weeks to follow.

Sony’s yet to make an official comment on GT5 launch sales, but we fully expect the game to feature heavily in any post NPD comments later this month.
