Gran Turismo 5 will miss its planned November 2 launch in North America, Sony Computer Entertainment America has confirmed.

No new release date has been announced, though SCEA has said the game is still “coming this holiday season”.

“We sincerely apologise to GT fans for the delay, however, creator Kazunori Yamauchi and the team at Polyphony Digital want to make certain they are creating the perfect racing experience, and we are confident that this ambitious game will exceed expectations when it launches,” explained SCEA producer Taku Imasaki.

We’re waiting for confirmation of a European release delay, though that looks pretty certain too.

With a firm date finally in place Gran Turismo fans were gearing up for the game’s release in three weeks. The delay will come as a major disappointment not only to fans, but Sony too. The platform holder will be looking to the game to shift PS3 units this holiday. How far into the holiday season we’ll have to wait before the game’s release is unclear.
