Polyphony Digital has revealed that its Gran Turismo franchise has achieved “cumulative sales” in excess of 63.15 million copies worldwide as of December 2010.
Gran Turismo 5, the most recent entry in the series, has shipped 6.37 million copies – 3.97 of which across Europe. As of December 6 the game had shipped 5.5 million copies.
The fifth game in the series is currently the lowest ‘seller’ in the main series, although this is likely largely because of its limited time in stores as of December 2010.
Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec – 14.89 million
Gran Turismo 4 – 11.19 million
Gran Turismo – 10.85 million
Gran Turismo 2 – 9.37
Gran Turismo 5 – 6.37 million
Gran Turismo PSP has shipped 2.32 million copies.
Sales are sure to be heavily front-loaded, but we’d anticipate that Gran Turismo 5 will be able to continue shifting copies for as long as Sony manufactures the discs. It seems unlikely GT5 will get anywhere close to the massive sales of GT3, but in the region of 9-10 million doesn’t seem unattainable.
