Speaking to Edge, Ready at Dawn (Daxter and God of War: Chains of Olympus) CEO Didier Malenfant has revealed he has no “clue” what Sony’s plans are regarding the PSP.

“You know, the way these things work is that, ironically, even if there was a new PSP in the works we would probably be the last people to find out about it,” said Malenfant. “I really have no clue what Sony’s plans are.”

According to Acclaim chief creative officer Dave Perry, his developer sources have revealed that a new UMD-less PSP is in the works. Perry has also called on SCEA’s Sony’s John Koller to end speculation.

While Malenfant is in the dark over the future of the PSP, he is a firm believer that more widespread digital distribution would be a positive for the industry. Rumours suggest that the UMD-less PSP would enable users to download software directly to their PSP.

“As far as what my personal wishes are, I’d love to see anything that can help distribution move quicker toward a 100 per cent online model,” said Malenfant. “It’s not piracy but used games that are killing us.”
