Sony has announced that God of War moved over a whopping 3.1 million copies worldwide in just three days.

Unsurprisingly, this makes the Norse-inspired adventure game the fastest-selling first party game on PlayStation 4 to date. It's well deserved too, as God of War is an absolutely stonking game that effortlessly revitalizes the blood-splattering franchise after a five-year hiatus.

As previously reported, God of War is currently sitting pretty behind only Far Cry 5 in terms of the biggest week-one sales of 2018 so far. It topped the UK Chart upon release, and even managed to hold off Nintendo Labo during its second week on sale.

'I would like to personally thank the millions of fans around the world who decided to hop on Kratos’ latest adventure with us. Your support is truly inspiring, and it’s a reason why we push ourselves every day to go beyond the boundaries of play. I’d also like to thank our amazing team at Santa Monica Studio,' commented SIE Santa Monica Studio's VP of Product Development, Shannon Studstill.

'The passion for storytelling across the team is undeniable, and I hope it’s clear that we never settle for what’s conventional. We look forward to hearing more about how fans are enjoying the game and creating new memories of their favorite God of War gameplay moments that will be remembered for decades to come.'

God of War looks set to receive a number of title updates in the coming weeks and months, including a Photo Mode. There's also a pretty sweet Avengers Infinity War Easter egg that's really worth hunting down if you have time.
