The director of upcoming PlayStation 4-exclusive rage-filled actioner God of War has defended the changes made to Kratos’ latest adventure, urging players to hold off judging the game until they play it. Obviously.

Speaking with Kotaku, Cory Barlog acknowledged that some fans on social media appear to be irked with some of the new additions to the game (Kratos has a son in tow and appears to have taken a few anger management courses, to name but a few), but stands by the team’s decisions.

‘I know there are a lot of people who are out there saying, “It’s totally different. They’re changing a lot of things. Hashtag Not My God Of War. Hashtag Cancel My Pre-Order.” But I think a lot of people have to play it,’ said Barlog.

He went on to say that the team Sony Santa Monica Studio put ‘a lot of heart and soul’ into the highly anticipated title, and assured fans that nothing was altered ‘cynically’ or as a result of being ‘under pressure.’

God of War is due out for PS4 on April 20. Alice recently got a taste of the action herself, so be sure to read her thoughts on the title in VideoGamer’s preview. In related news, Barlog recently admitted that rebooting God of War was never really considered for the series’ PS4 debut, and reckons we haven’t seen the last of Atreus and the Norse mythology backdrop.
