According to God of War III director of product development John Hight, Sony Santa Monica’s action epic cost US $44 million to create – a figure which came “within budget”.
“We are stamping discs now, so we’re effectively done. Just got a couple of countries that we’re finishing up on this week and we spent $44 million to make God of War III,” Hight told Giant Bomb. “Believe it or not, that’s right within budget.”
Much of this cost is as a result of a much larger work force, which more than doubled over that required to produce God of War II.
“We finished up God of War II with roughly 60 people which was more than double God of War I and now we’ve finished off God of War III with 132 people,” Hight said. “The biggest area that we grew was graphics on the art side.”
According to our review it’s been $44 million well spent, with Sony delivering what is arguably the greatest spectacle in video games to date.
