Nexon has announced Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – First Assault, a team-based, tactical first-person shooter coming to PC in 2016.

Based on the classic manga franchise, First Assault puts players in the role of one of eight elite, augmented soldiers each featuring their own unique abilities and attributes, fighting against terrorists in a futuristic cyberpunk universe.

Examples of special abilities, including Motoko Kusanagi’s ‘Therm-optic Camouflage’ cloaking technology and Saito’s special vision-enhancing ability.

Given that it’s being published by Nexon, you should probably expect it to be a free-to-play title, too.

“Players will carry out battle strategies and formations as they choose from among eight initial characters,” said Nexon. “Adding a unique layer to the experience, each of these can be customized with specialized body augmentations, weapon attachments and enhanced abilities. First Assault also features ‘SkillSync,’ which allows players to leverage shared cyber-abilities with nearby teammates in combat modes to augment and increase their skills.  By using SkillSync in smart and tactical ways, teammates can work together in devastating combinations in battle.”

A beta test for the game is due to run on October 1 through to October 4, with a second due to follow shortly after. Players who participate in the initial beta will unlock an exclusive ‘First Assault’ weapon skin for use in-game.

To apply for the beta, head through to the game’s website.
