Epic Game’s Gears of War 3 has been leaked, with an in-development version of the game hitting torrent sites, according to a post on gaming forum NeoGAF.

The incomplete version of the game is reportedly a developer or “JTAG” build, which means it won’t run on the average modded Xbox 360. Anyone who does manage to get it working will find a complete single-player campaign and multiplayer modes – thought to be what was on show at E3 in June.

“We have seen the reports of Gears of War 3 content being propped on the Web and working closely with our security teams and law enforcement to address the situation,” Microsoft told VG247. “This content is not from a final build and is not representative of what fans will enjoy when the game launches worldwide on September 20, 2011.”

Epic design director Cliff Bleszinski recently said that Gears of War will not be the final legacy of Epic Games and that the Gears 3 campaign is at least 10 hours long/

How much this leak will hurt the sales of Gears of War 3 remains to be seen, but it’s unlikely to be too bad for Microsoft and Epic. The leak could affect gamers’ enjoyment, though, with the chances of spoilers hitting the internet being very high. On the flip-side, internet forums are already ablaze with talk of Gears 3 being one of the best looking console games ever – something that will likely increase interest in the title.
