The first titbits of information regarding the campaign in Gears of War 3 have been dug up, giving a better insight into what to expect when the game launches on April 8, 2011.
According to a post on the official Gears of War forums, Gears of War 3 will be set 18 months after the second game – after events of the fourth Gears of War novel. The location seen in the Ashes to Ashes trailer is nicknamed Char because of the remains of the victims of the Hammer of Dawn – a weapon of mass destruction.
It’s also been confirmed by Gears of War executive producer Rod Fergusson – on a Gears of War IRC chart – that Gears 3 will feature four-player co-op, with characters including Marcus, Dom, Cole, Baird and a “variety of others”.
Fergusson also explained that Dom’s new bearded look is as a result of his problems coming to terms with the loss of his wife, and the female COG soldier seen in the trailer is called Anya, a pencil pusher turned badass.
Weaponry will obviously be hugely important, thus far only two are known of: the Pendulum Lancer (an older version of the Gears favourite, lacking the Chainsaw Bayonet attachment) and a Double Barrelled Shotgun.
The trailer also gives us a look at the Lambent Locust, an enemy able to transform and mutate as you fight them.
