Sony has confirmed that trophy support for older PlayStation titles on the new PlayStation Plus will be optional for developers.

The confirmation came in a new PlayStation Blog post to mark the launch of the upgraded service in Asia. As the service launched, players found several other classic PlayStation games now had trophies. These include Ape Escape, Hot Shots Golf and IQ: Intelligent Qube. Syphon Filter developer Bend Studio confirmed earlier this week that its title would also include brand new trophies.

The extensive blog also confirmed a couple of extra details about the revamped service, including letting us know when to expect the announcement of new titles. As is the case with the old existing scheme, the PlayStation Plus Essential tier will refresh on the first Tuesday of every month. New PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games for the service will be announced and drop on this day.

Meanwhile, for the higher tiers, another refresh will occur in the middle of the month. This will include the new games across the Extra and Premium/Deluxe tiers. The number of games in this refresh will vary every month. You can read the full blog post for yourself over here. We also found out earlier this week classic PlayStation titles will also get CRT filter options.

The new PlayStation Plus is available now in Asian markets, except Japan. They get the service next, on June 2 followed by North and South America on June 13. Finally, Europe will get the new service on June 23, 2022.
