The Xbox Developer Direct for January 2026 is here, and Microsoft has confirmed the release date for Forza Horizon 6. Leaks as early as November 2025 pointed to a “first half of 2026” launch, and it’s now official that Forza Horizon 6 will release on May 19, 2026, for Xbox Series X/S and PC, with the PS5 version arriving later.

Originally revealed at the Xbox Tokyo Game Show in September 2025, Forza Horizon 6 moves on from the open-world of Mexico to the “scenic and breathtaking Japan, where you will build up your racing status to become a Legend at the Horizon Festival”.

As is typical of the series, Forza Horizon 6 is another open-world racing game that blends arcade-style gameplay with stunning, realistic graphics and vehicle physics. The series moves to a new location with every installment, and developer Playground Games says Japan is the biggest open-world yet, boasting over 550 cars from Japanese culture.

Playground Games has been the primary developer of the Forza Horizon series alongside Turn 10 Studios since the franchise’s debut in 2012. However, Playground Games has also developed the upcoming Fable reboot, which is also set to release in 2026.

Forza Horizon 6 on PS5 will arrive later

Although a specific release date wasn’t provided, Playground Games confirmed again during the Xbox Developer Direct that Forza Horizon 6 will arrive on PlayStation 5 post-launch, meaning sometime after the initial release on Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Forza Horizon 5 originally launched in November 2021 and didn’t arrive on PS5 until April 2025. However, that was before Xbox began bringing its console exclusives to PS5, starting with Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush in 2024. While the exact PS5 release window for Forza Horizon 6 remains unknown, it’s likely to arrive within six months to a year, especially considering Forza Horizon 5 was a huge success as one of PS5’s best-selling games in 2025.

As for why it isn’t launching on PS5 day one, Video Games Chronicle owner and editor-in-chief Andy Robinson claims he was told that Forza Horizon 6 simply “wasn’t ready,” though he added that he doesn’t “know how true that is”.

Beyond Forza Horizon 6, more Xbox intellectual properties are headed to PS5. Halo Campaign Evolved is confirmed to launch day one on PS5 in Fall 2026, and there are also rumors that Starfield could finally arrive on PS5 in 2026, too.
