Epic Games has released hundreds of Fortnite updates over the past seven and a half years. These updates are a big reason why the game has become so massive and still dominates the gaming industry. Due to this, it’s unlikely that things will change with the company. However, while Epic’s vision is ambitious, there are also some obstacles along the way.

The Fortnite developer has announced a delay for one of its most highly anticipated features, now slated for release in the third quarter of 2025. Initially set to launch in late 2024, the feature was first pushed to early 2025, but unfortunately, Epic has had to postpone it yet again.

Custom items are coming to Fortnite but no one knows when

Epic Games released UEFN in March 2023, allowing Fortnite players to make fantastic maps within the game. This is an improved version of the Creative mode and it has been a massive success so far. Approximately, 36.5% of the game’s total playtime came from user-generated maps, which marks a 5% increase in comparison to 2023.

UEFN is a win-win project for Epic and creators. While Epic gets more players to keep playing Fortnite, creators are handsomely paid, as many of them have already made millions from their projects. Given this success, it’s no wonder the company is committed to further developing UEFN and introducing new features. However, the journey hasn’t unfolded exactly as planned.

Custom items are still not available in Fortnite, and there’s no clear timeline for when this feature will be released due to multiple delays. According to the official UEFN roadmap, custom items are now expected to arrive in the third quarter of 2025. This delay is a major letdown for both players and creators who have been eagerly anticipating the feature.

There is no doubt that Fortnite Creative maps are entertaining. Some of them are played by millions of players daily, which is a testament to their success. However, adding support for custom items would be a game-changer, taking the experience to a whole new level and greatly enhancing the game. With that in mind, we’re hopeful that this will be the final delay and that the feature will be released by October 2025.
